Iran will face new sanctions if the Obama administration fails to reach a deal over the nation’s nuclear program, House Speaker John Boehner promised Saturday.
“The sanctions are going to come, and they’re going to come quick,” Boehner said on CNN. “Frankly, we should have kept the sanctions in place so that we could have gotten to a real agreement.”
The Ohio Republican said he has “serious doubts” about the current negotiations, which have a self-imposed deadline of March 31.
Reports say Tehran is pushing to keep its ability to continue its nuclear research, which could enable it to build an atomic bomb.
Lawmakers decided to wait until after the Easter-Passover recess to act on bipartisan legislation that would require congressional feedback on any deal negotiators reach with Tehran.
