RedState removes McCain parody posts

The blogosphere must have hit a nerve when Leon H. Wolf‘s attacks against Meghan McCain‘s writing style in “Dirty, Sexy Politics” stemmed later into a series of blog posts which appeared under the by-line “Totally Meghan McCain” on RedState.com, which ran the posts from March 22 and September 17. The posts were removed Tuesday after McCain’s lawyers threatened legal action, citing intellectual property theft and Meghan’s name and likeness being used without her permission. “These fake front page posts place Meghan McCain before the public in a false light which is highly offensive to a reasonable person,” read the letter.

But RedState editor Erick Erickson couldn’t resist infusing his retraction with a little snark, writing, “Ok – the posts were not written, submitted, or authorized by Meghan McCain or anyone associated with her. For those of you who were confused, we apologize profusely that you could read those posts and think any reasonable person could write them … We’re confident that we are within our rights to parody and mock Meghan McCain on this, but it is frankly not worth our time.”
