Punky Brewster bests Terrell Owens again

With a little help from the Internet, former child star Soleil Moon Frye has resurfaced not as an actor, but as an advocate.

At the Alzheimer’s Association’s National Alzheimer’s Gala at the National Building Museum on Tuesday, the star most people know as Punky Brewster won the association’s Young Champions Award.

At the gala, where Frye appeared alongside “Frasier” actor David Hyde Pierce, she said she had been successful in her outreach through Twitter.

“The idea that over 1.6 million people are at my fingertips on a daily basis is so amazing and so profound because it teaches us that if we use the power of social media and technology, [it’s good],” Frye said.

Frye received the award a year after it was given to NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens, whom she developed a rivalry with last October.

The two started a Twitter war over the association’s “Who Wears Purple Best” contest, in which the D-lister beat the controversial football great.
