National Enquirer one step closer to Pulitzer

It’s the little supermarket tabloid that could.

The National Enquirer, heralded for breaking the news about John Edwards’ affair with campaign videographer Rielle Hunter, and their subsequent “love child,” officially is in the running for the Pulitzer Prize, Emily Miller reported Thursday for the Huffington Post.

The Enquirer is in the running in two categories: Investigative Reporting and National News Reporting. Miller wrote a strongly worded column in January arguing that the mainstream media snoozed on the Edwards story and thus the Enquirer should be rewarded with the prize.
