George H.W. Bush released from Houston hospital

Former President George H.W. Bush has been released from Houston Methodist Hospital.

“President Bush was released from the Houston Methodist Hospital today. He is now resting at home, grateful to the doctors and nurses for their superb care,” his spokesman said in a statement Tuesday.

Bush, 90, was hospitalized on the evening of Dec. 22 after experiencing shortness of breath. Hospitalization was just a precaution and had nothing to do with the bronchitis he had in 2012, according to a spokesman.

While in the hospital, he remained in good spirits and had many visitors.

“President and Mrs. Bush enjoyed watching the Houston Texans football game together today, and send their congratulations to Coach Bill O’Brien and the team for a hard-fought, winning season. As we indicated previously, the president will remain at the Houston Methodist Hospital this evening. We hope to have news about a possible discharge soon,” his office said Sunday. The following day, his breathing reportedly returned to normal.
