Kasich: GOP ‘misled’ and ’embittered’ voters with Obamacare repeal promise

Republican presidential candidate John Kasich lambasted GOP congressional lawmakers at a rally in Kaysville, Utah late Friday. In a moment of tough love, the Ohio governor told conservative voters what they may not have wanted to hear: politicians, even conservatives, lie to get elected.

Speaking about the disconnect between what politicians promised on the campaign trail and how they have actually delivered when elected to office, Kasich explained what he has witnessed.

“We have politicians that ran for office, and in order to win they just promised you everything you wanted to hear,” Kasich told the audience, referring to members of Congress in the 2014 election. “You know we have a president whose name is Obama and they ran in 2014 saying they were going to repeal Obamacare. Now how are they going to repeal Obamacare when the guy whose name — it’s named after is the president and he’s got a little thing called the veto pen?”

But the promise worked on voters, Kasich explained to the quiet crowd.

“See you got all charged up and they misled you and they embittered you,” said Kasich.

He told Beehive State voters to think twice before believing every promise a candidate makes to his or her constituents, saying “if a politicians lips are moving, they must be lying.”

Kasich defended his record without admitting he’s been a lifelong politician, since age 26. Still, he argued his experience and his promise to underpromise, would be better than the other alternatives.

“I know at the end of the day, we want somebody who can land the plane and I’m gonna tell you I’m gonna do my very best to not overpromise,” Kasich said.
