DNC Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., was given a second chance on “Meet the Press” Sunday to explain the difference between Democrats and Socialists, but for a second time, she passed on the question, choosing to focus instead on the difference between Republicans and Democrats.
Wasserman Schultz was first asked to name the difference Thursday night by NBC’s Chris Matthews, where she tried to laugh the question off and refocus on the difference between the GOP and the Democrats.
When Chuck Todd posed the question to the DNC chairwoman Sunday, she again refused to answer.
“Given that Bernie Sanders is an unabashed socialist, believes in social democrat governments like the ones in Europe, what is the difference?” asked Chuck Todd. “Can you explain the difference?”
“The important distinction that I think we’re going to be discussing … in this campaign is the difference between Democrats and Republicans,” said Wasserman Schultz, before rattling off Democratic talking points.
In the round-table discussion after the interview, Chris Matthews savaged her non-answer.
“Maybe there’s an intellectual problem but I will give her the benefit of the doubt and say it was really a political problem she faced,” said Matthews.
