Kasich: Women ‘left their kitchens’ to support me

During a town hall in Fairfax, Va., Ohio Gov. John Kasich argued that women who “left the kitchen” to volunteer for him made a difference in his early political successes.

“How did I get elected? Nobody was — I didn’t have anybody for me. We just got an army of people who, um, and many women, who left their kitchens to go out and go door-to-door and to put yard signs up for me,” Kasich told the crowd of supporters.

Later on in the event, a female supporter spoke out against the Ohio governor’s earlier comment, telling him that while she would support him, she wouldn’t be “coming out of the kitchen” to do so.

“First off, I want to say — your comment earlier about the women came out the kitchen to support you? I’ll come to support you, but I won’t be coming out of the kitchen,” the supporter told Kasich.

Kasich was making his first of three stops on the day, with events this afternoon in Charlottesville and Richmond.
