New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie does not think talking about former President Bill Clinton’s alleged sexual misconduct is the smartest way to attack Hillary Clinton. Instead, Christie said, the eventual GOP nominee would be wise to focus on the Clintons’ nonprofits.
Asked whether Bill’s sex life is “fair game” for Republican candidates by conservative personality Sean Hannity, Christie responded that, “Anything is fair game.”
“It wouldn’t be my focus because I think the American people have litigated how they feel about President Clinton and his personal conduct and his personal life,” Christie continued. “And I don’t think we get anywhere as Republicans by doing that. I think there is plenty to talk about in Hillary Clinton’s abject failure as secretary of state, her mediocre record as a United States senator. What has she ever accomplished in her life? What has she done? Those are things we should be fighting her on and I don’t think we should be re-litigating Bill Clinton’s personal life.”
Hannity interjected that if Hillary Clinton portrays her Republican opposition as sexist on the campaign trail, then it would be warranted for Republicans to raise the issue of President Clinton’s personal life.
“I think the most effective way to go after her, go after her on the Clinton Foundation,” Christie said. “Because remember, she said before Congress she will go out of her way to make sure they avoid conflicts of interest. Yet we know that they took hundreds of millions of dollars over time from countries that had business in front of the State Department that Hillary Clinton was running. That just shows there’s a lawlessness in her in the same way there’s a lawlessness in Barack Obama.”
Christie added that when it comes to Clinton’s use of a private email account and personal server, he believes she may have broken laws related to potential obstruction of justice and the mishandling of classified information.
The New Jersey governor is on the campaign trail in New Hampshire on Tuesday, a state that he has acknowledged is a crucial for his path to the nomination. Christie ranks fourth in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings.
