Top Christie donor backs Kasich

Ohio Gov. John Kasich stands to make a lot of money off of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s exit from the 2016 presidential race. That’s because Ken Langone, Christie’s billionaire financier, will support Kasich.

Langone, a co-founder of the Home Depot hardware store, is worth an estimated $2.8 billion and had donated $250,000 to a super political action committee supporting Christie before his demise on Wednesday. As the GOP presidential herd continues to thin, Kasich will rely on large-money backers to stay viable.

Kasich is campaigning in South Carolina on Thursday and will head to Michigan next week. The Ohio governor’s turn toward the Midwest comes as he searches for a longer-term strategy to remain competitive, as he has publicly expressed his doubt at a victory in South Carolina.
