MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski slammed the news media on Monday for, she said, giving Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton too much control in the coverage of her campaign.
Talking with co-host Joe Scarborough and editor of the liberal “The Nation” magazine Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Brzezinski compared Sunday show interviews Clinton has done to those done by the Republican candidates.
“I think we do have a problem that we need to be really transparent about,” Brzezinski said. “I’m going to try and say it. First of all, I don’t have a problem when Donald Trump calls in the day after a debate. But I do have a problem when … [h]e’s on the phone, all of the other candidates are schleping in, but we’ve got the opposite problem with Hillary, who shows up when she wants to, who shows up when she feels like it. And only when a red carpet has been rolled out and everything has been negotiated and pre-planned. And everyone [in the media] can say they don’t do that — they do.”
Since launching her campaign this year, Clinton, the front-runner for her party’s nomination, has faced scrutiny for limiting her availability to the media, opting instead for more controlled, carefully staged campaign events.
