Tea Party stalwart Sen. Mike Lee is lending a hand to Sen. Rob Portman.
The Utah Republican has signed a fundraising email for Portman, an Ohio Republican looking to build support for what could be a tough re-election battle in 2016.
Lee also is up for re-election next year, but should be on a glide-path to a second term in conservative-leaning Utah; Ohio is a competitive swing battleground.
Portman has invited Lee, a conservative stalwart with Tea Party ties, to keynote a Lincoln Day dinner in Hamilton County in May. The email appeal, due for release on Monday, follows below:
I am excited to visit Ohio and speak at the Hamilton County Lincoln Day Dinner in May at the invitation of my friend, Rob Portman. But today, I wanted to take a minute to write to you about the good hands you’re in with Rob as your Senator.
Rob is a conservative who Ohioans can trust to fight for smaller, better government that reduces barriers to job growth and expands opportunities for workers. Rob knows that we cannot solve the great problems facing our country without seriously addressing our debt and deficit. As one of the few leaders in Washington with the ability to write a budget that actually balances, Rob is a great resource for the Senate and our nation.
Liberals across the country are going to pour money into Ohio over the next two years to silence Rob’s thoughtful, strategic, and conservative voice in the Washington. Democrats are even admitting that their path to a majority in the Senate runs right through Ohio.
Rob is critical to keeping our Republican majority in the US Senate and moving America forward. We cannot allow far-left retreads from the past to get elected to the US Senate. Ted Strickland is an Obama-Clinton liberal who has a record of failing the people of Ohio. Don’t let Retread Ted take you backward, Ohio!
