Secret Service reports ‘quad copter’ device crash at White House complex

A “quad copter” device crashed at a White House complex Monday morning.

The Secret Service said Monday that an officer saw and heard a 2-foot device crash on the southeast side of the White House, according to Reuters.

A device was found on the White House grounds in the middle of the night, and the White House was on lockdown until around 5 a.m., when staff was allowed inside. Fire, police and other rescue personnel were on hand to search the perimeter after the device was detected, according to the Associated Press.

A White House spokesman said Monday that the device posed no threat, and President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are in India. It is not known whether Sasha and Malia Obama are at the White House.

“There is a device that has been recovered by the Secret Service at the White House,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Monday. “The early indications are that it does not pose any sort of ongoing threat to anybody at the White House.”
