Fewer people rode the D.C. Metrorail system Friday morning than for any of the past three presidential inaugurations.
By 11 a.m., 193,000 trips were taken on the city’s subway system, according to the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority. That’s an amount slightly less than for George W. Bush’s second inauguration and far below both of Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremonies.
By the same time on Inauguration Day in 2005, 197,000 trips had been taken on the Metro. In 2009, 513,000 people had traveled on the Metro and in 2013, 317,000 trips had been taken.
The reduced ridership reflects an overall lower rate of attendance at Trump’s inauguration than for other recent inaugurations.
