CNN’s Jake Tapper withdraws from Clinton Foundation panel

CNN anchor Jake Tapper will no longer serve as a moderator for a Clinton Foundation-related panel discussion during a conference next month, according to an updated agenda for the event.

The Washington Post’s Erik Wemple first reported the news Friday.

The conference, produced by the Clinton Global Initiative, is scheduled for June 8-10 in Denver, Colo., and had originally said Tapper would moderate the panel, interview former President Bill Clinton and also be a featured “speaker.”

Tapper’s supposed involvement drew controversy last week in light of ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos’ admission that he had donated money to the Clinton Foundation, which is tied to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

CNN said the whole thing was a misunderstanding. CNN has said it would not be hosting any events in conjunction with the Clinton Foundation, nor would Tapper be featured as a speaker at any events for the foundation. The network said Tapper would, however, moderate a panel on business in the U.S. and conduct a televised interview with Bill Clinton.

The panel now lists CNN’s Poppy Harlow as the moderator.

A spokeswoman for CNN did not return a request for comment on the change.
