Michael Brown’s stepfather has apologized for his response to the Ferguson grand jury decision.
On Nov. 24, the night it was revealed that a grand jury would not indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting of Brown, Louis Head was caught on camera yelling “Burn this motherf—er down!” and “Burn this bitch down!” before violent protests broke out around the city.
Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson said Monday there would be an investigation into whether Head intended to start the riots. Law enforcement sources say that he is unlikely to be prosecuted, according to CNN.
Head apologized profusely for the tirade Wednesday.
“I was so angry and full of raw emotions, as so many others were, and granted, I screamed out words that I shouldn’t have screamed in the heat of the moment,” he said in a statement to CNN’s Don Lemon. “It was wrong, and I humbly apologize to all of those who read my pain and anger as a true desire for what I want for our community.”
Head said he was being unfairly singled out for causing the riots.
“But to place blame solely on me for the conditions of our community, and country, after the grand jury decision goes way too far and is as wrong as the decision itself. […] The last thing I truly wanted was to see it go up in flames. In spite of my frustration, it really hurt to see that,” he said.
A law enforcement analyst told CNN that proving Head’s outburst started the riots would be too difficult.
