Donald Trump’s previous support for universal healthcare coverage is being used in a new ad to damage his chances of winning over Utah Republicans.
Club for Growth, a free-market advocacy group that’s previously launched several seven-figure ad buys against the Republican presidential front-runner, debuted its newest ad Thursday on the airwaves in Utah.
In soundbites included in the 30-second ad, Trump tells CBS News correspondent Scott Pelley he’s “going to take care of everybody,” in terms of providing healthcare coverage, and “the government’s going to pay for it.”
“Ask Donald Trump why he sides with Hillary Clinton and why he want more government health care,” a narrator then says.
The ad will air in Utah, where Trump is polling behind Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, up until the state’s Republican primary next Tuesday.
Utah’s majority-take-all primary allows a candidate carrying 50 percent or more of the vote to win all 40 delegates. In the event no candidate tops 50 percent, the delegates are awarded on a proportional basis.
