Katharine Schwarzenegger speaks out

Ever since Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to split, there’s been some speculation about what’s happening with their kids. And while their oldest daughter, 21-year-old Katherine Schwarzenegger, fled to London to escape attention after the scandal broke, she’s finally come around with a new feature in Harper’s Bazaar where she talks about her parents’ separation. “My parents always really sheltered us, so when [the separation] started happening, it was like everything came out of nowhere overnight,” she said in the article, adding later that she’s avoided reading stories about the scandal. “I see them, but I choose not to read the stories because I figure whether it’s true or not, I don’t need to … I just focus on my family and everyone being okay instead of following the gossip.”

Katherine will be heading back to the University of Southern California this fall to finish her degree in communications with a minor in women’s studies. As for her parents’ separation, she said it’s been painful, “But I really do believe everything happens for a reason,” she said.
