Funnyman: Bill Cosby takes home humor prize

He used comedy and charm to touch Americans from the comfort of their living room couches throughout the 1980s, and now, he’s got the hardware to prove it.

William Henry “Bill” Cosby was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor Monday night at the Kennedy Center for his ability to exude humor from his “uniquely American experience.”

Cosby accepted a 1884 bronze portrait bust of Mark Twain sculpted by the late Karl Gerhard (1853-1940) before a slew of Hollywood pals and Washington elite including Cosby show colleagues Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Phylicia Rashad, and Michelle Obama and Jill Biden.

Entertainers also in attendance: Jerry Seinfeld, Sinbad, Chris Rock, Carl Reiner, Willie Nelson, Wynton Marsalis, Len Chandler, James DePreist, Dick Gregory and Jimmy Heath.
