Clintons spent $1.5 million on midterm travel

The Clintons’ midterm election travel expenses cost more than $1.5 million.

Campaigns and political action committees alike doled out the money to fly in Bill and Hillary Clinton during the midterm elections, campaign filings show.

One charge — $4,360 — was for former President Bill Clinton’s trip for failed Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Braley in Iowa, a Politico review of Federal Election Commission records, campaign filings and state parties found. Another charge shows $21,801 to Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu’s unsuccessful re-election campaign.

The Clintons held roughly 100 events for candidates this past election cycle, raising tens of millions of dollars, sources say. Clinton aides declined to comment.

Though Bill Clinton originally received more money than his wife, according to pre-election filings, filings after midterms show Hillary Clinton’s travel costs adding up.

The California Democratic Party paid $49,800 to Executive Fliteways for Hillary Clinton’s jet charters at the end of October, part of a total $817,048 since the elections.

Their travel expenses are expected to pick up as Hillary Clinton nears her probable declaration to run for president in 2016.

Hillary Clinton leads the potential field of Democratic candidates by nearly 50 points, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
