Americans who bought healthcare insurance through Obamacare are more pleased than those who bought insurance other ways, according to a new study of 3,000 healthcare customers by J.D. Power.
Enrollment satisfaction for new enrollees increased significantly in 2014: from 615 to 670 points (on a 1,000-point scale), the study found. Satisfaction for members who reenrolled in healthcare insurance through Obamacare was 731.
Overall, members’ satisfaction with the healthcare insurance they bought through the Obamacare marketplace was 696, compared to 679 for members who bought insurance through traditional ways such as employee-based plans.
Americans were most satisfied (716) with buying healthcare insurance through a partnership marketplace in states that rely on a partnership with the federal government.
Federally facilitated marketplaces were second-most popular (rated 699), while state-based marketplaces received a 683 rating.
The study specifically examined claims processing, communications, cost, coverage and benefits, customer service and provider selection — with cost being the most influential.
