Perry returns to Iowa

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is back in Iowa on Friday, making a stop in a key early presidential primary state ahead of an expected 2016 campaign.

Perry will return to Iowa to headline a campaign event for state Rep. Pat Grassley, the grandson of longtime Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley.

The trip to Grassley’s district Friday morning will mean Perry has visited Iowa more than any other potential 2016 presidential candidate, according to The Des Moines Register.

Perry will also headline a multi-county GOP event in Sheldon later on Friday afternoon.

He has now voiced support or campaigned for 17 Iowa candidates and has done fundraisers for 16 county GOP organizers.

Perry’s list of Iowa endorsements will grow when his political action committee, RickPAC, makes its final decisions in October, GOP strategist Robert Haus told the Register.

“No national Republican leader has done more to help elect Iowa Republicans than Gov. Rick Perry,” Haus said.

Perry last visited in Iowa on Sept. 2 to speak at the Iowa State fair.

A RealClearPolitics average of polls has Perry sixth among the Republican field.
