George P. Bush: ‘#MAGA’

George P. Bush, the Texas land commissioner and son of the former Florida governor and Donald Trump rival Jeb Bush, tweeted his unmistakable support for the president’s agenda on Tuesday, in response to an endorsement from Donald Trump, Jr. of his reelection campaign.

Bush, who represents the next generation of elected officials from his family, was never the Trump adversary his father was. But he wasn’t an out and out cheerleader, either, when the time came to endorse the Republican nominee for president. “From Team Bush, it’s a bitter pill to swallow. But you know what? You get back up and you help the man that won, and you make sure that we stop Hillary Clinton,” Bush said in August 2016.

Now a year and a half later, the younger Bush is in an unexpected position: fending off a primary challenge from previous land commissioner Jerry Patterson, after Bush upset some Texans and state lawmakers with his plans for redeveloping the Alamo site and Patterson criticized Bush for cutting agency jobs. Bush’s #MAGA message to the Trump family on Tuesday indicates he’s taking the primary, scheduled for next month, seriously.
