WaPo says ‘love is blind’ on Obama date gaffe

Seems as if the Washington Post’s Style section took the night off for Valentine’s Day.

One item slipped past two lines of editors Sunday night — and it wasn’t about just any bold-faced name. It was an error regarding the first couple.

A low-level staffer penned in Monday’s Style section feature “Names & Faces” that President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama dined at exclusive restaurant Fifty-Two in Chicago on Valentine’s Day.

This is not a lie … except for the tiny detail that the first couple took off to Chicago for Valentine’s Day in 2009, and this year were tucked away at Camp David with their daughters, which was verifiable from any White House pool report.

The paper posted a retraction online in the blog of WaPo’s ombudsman, Andrew Alexander on Monday.
