Trump on Rubio’s finances: ‘He lives above his means’

Donald Trump thinks Florida Sen. Marco Rubio “lives above his means” and deliberately mishandled the Republican Party’s finances when he served as speaker of the Florida House.

Speaking at a press conference Tuesday at Trump Tower, the billionaire presidential candidate described Rubio as “a disaster with his credit cards.”

“His credit card debt and his problems with credit cards, and what he did with the party apparatus when he was running their finances is very bad,” Trump told the crowd of supporters shortly after he debuted his latest book, “Crippled America.”

“[Rubio] has a very bad record with his finances … with his houses. He certainly lives above his means,” he added.

Trump continued to blast Rubio, who reached double digits in New Hampshire Monday after being dubbed the winner of the third Republican debate for his position on illegal immigration and overall message.

“Frankly, had [Jeb] Bush been a better messenger, he has the better message,” he said, adding that “Bush gave a very weak message, but the facts are on Bush’s side.”

“Ultimately, I think Marco is going to be hurt very badly,” he added.

Trump fell to fourth place in this week’s Washington Examiner presidential power rankings as Rubio maintained his No. 1 spot.
