Obamas take a snow run

You may not think “shave ice” — finely shaved ice doused in fresh tropical juices — is a Christmas staple, but as the First Family spends another Christmas vacation in Hawaii, they’ve made a point of seeking out that sweet brand of snow.

This week, President Obama took the family for their yearly “pilgrimage” to Island Snow, a surf shop in a shopping mall in Kailua that’s just around the corner from the First Family’s vacation spot. According to Obamam Foodarama, the president arrived with a party of about 15 at 3:35 p.m., and they all spent about 20 minutes in the shop ordering shave ice and browsing while a crowd of 60 or so gathered outside to try and get pictures. There were no photo-ops or handshakes that day, however, as the president has spent much of his vacation out of the public eye.
