Redskins score with kids at Macy’s

The Washington Redskins may not always have the field covered on game days, but on Tuesday afternoon at Macy’s Metro Center, the players who helped hand out jackets, gloves and ski hats to underprivileged kids from area schools, scored all around and definitely gained some new fans. “It feels good just to be here. To see the kids smile and give them something that they couldn’t have and weren’t able to have during the holiday so they can be happy,” Redskins wide receiver Brandon Banks told Yeas & Nays.

Banks, along with a dozen of his teammates including David Anderson, Oshiomogho Atogwe, Terrence Austin, DeJon Gomes, Sean Locklear, Darrion Scott, Donte Stallworth, Brandyn Thompson, Josh Wilson and Doug Worthington, goofed off with students from Guilford Elementary, Seat Pleasant Elementary, Cleveland Elementary, and Browne Education Campus and helped them pick out new winter gear as part of Macy’s third annual Covered for the Holidays coat giveaway.

Austin, who is a wide receiver for the Skins, says he was so inspired by last year’s Covered for the Holidays event that he had to come back this year. “I really look forward to doing this for the kids because I know how it was when I was growing up and I didn’t have the opportunity a lot of the time to get the best of things and I wish somebody would have been able to reach out to me like this and help me by giving me a coat or some warm clothes. It’s cold out there and they need this but most importantly, I just love giving back to the kids. It’s definitely amazing for kids their age to come here and look up to guys like us who do this.”
