Marco Rubio courts donors ahead of 2016 announcement

MIAMI — Sen. Marco Rubio is mobilizing his team of loyal campaign contributors ahead of Monday’s expected announcement that he will run for president in 2016.

The Florida Republican is set to reveal his plans during an early-evening rally in downtown Miami at the iconic Freedom Tower. The Rubio political operation has issued word that no more tickets are available for the event and that an overflow viewing area is being set up in the parking lot to accommodate additional supporters.

But hours before all of that, Rubio will personally fete donors from across the country during a Monday morning “National Investor” conference call, according to a copy of the invitation obtained by the Washington Examiner.

“Sen. Marco Rubio would like to invite you to join him on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 10:30am ET (7:30am PT) for a special call on a historic day,” the invitation reads. “Thank you for your past support of Sen. Rubio, and we hope we can count on your support in the coming days.”

Additionally, Rubio’s team is hosting a dinner on Sunday and a breakfast on Monday for donors and other key supporters who are in Miami for the senator’s presumed White House bid launch.

Rubio is up for re-election to the Senate next year but has said he would only run for one office.
