Biden bashes Clinton for lacking Sanders’ ‘authenticity’

Vice President Joe Biden dropped some big hints on Monday about which Democratic candidate he hopes receives the party’s nomination.

The former Delaware senator repeatedly praised Bernie Sanders’ campaign for the attention it has paid to income inequality, but bashed Hillary Clinton’s team for failing to fully understand the issue.

“Bernie is speaking to a yearning that is deep and real. And he has credibility on it … Hillary’s focus has been other things up to now, and that’s been Bernie’s — no one questions Bernie’s authenticity on those issues,” Biden told CNN’s chief political analyst Gloria Borger.

The vice president said he was not surprised by the amount of support Sanders has received from the Democratic party. He noted that Sanders’ referring to himself as a Democratic socialist in a previous debate did not hurt his public image.

The Sanders campaign has come from behind since declaring last year to coming within three points of Clinton, according to recent Iowa polls.

Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is the only other candidate vying for the Democratic nomination.
