It’s not just a gym — it’s ZenGo

Looking for a way to burn off those holiday party calories in a place without the typical workout equipment and hordes of people? At ZenGo Fitness in Bethesda, founder Marc Caputo and his team have created a place with a program that’s focused on making everything about your fitness experience easy — except for the workout, of course.

“We’ve tried to do something that is polar opposite of the experience you get at a big-box gym where it’s sort of all about the numbers and the more people you push through sort of the better it is for the bottom line,” Caputo tells Yeas & Nays.

The bike room is what Caputo calls a 45-minute escape. “The lights are not off but they are almost down, it’s candlelit, and the room is mirrored with very dark ceilings and souped-up with a club stereo system.

“It’s kind of about losing yourself song by song in several three-to-four-minute challenges. In addition to just cycling, you are doing a lot of oblique work, ab crunches, tap backs, you’re standing and even almost dancing on the bike,” Caputo says. The programs are designed so that you can burn anywhere from 400 to 800 calories and easy enough that anyone ranging from teenagers to senior citizens can do them.

ZenGo customers can log on to their website, register for classes and choose which bike they want to use for that session.

Another added convenience at ZenGo is that clients can purchase credits for classes rather than have to sign up for a membership and pay monthly dues.

Maybe ZenGo can help 2012 be the year that you finally stick to that resolution to work out.
