Connie chides Maury

The point of D.C. natives Maury Povich and Connie Chung’s trip to Washington on Thursday was simply this: Come to the Newseum and introduce and discuss the movie “The Paper,” about a New York tabloid. But the couple’s back-and-forth banter quickly became the real entertainment.

“I really like my husband on television because he’s so understanding. … And then when he comes home, he doesn’t want to hear anything,” Chung offered. “No matter how hysterical I am, there are people on television saying, ‘Waaa haaa Maury ahhh.’ ”

“I think I’m going to throw up,” host Nick Clooney interrupted, while Povich just laughed and said, “Oh, stop it.”

While they had a brief stint on MSNBC, with this kind of chemistry, an audience member wondered if the two would ever work together again.

“I hope not,” Povich laughed.

“He’s a smartypants,” Chung said.

“I have no idea why that show didn’t work,” Clooney said.
