S.C. lawmaker endorses ‘proven conservative’ Ted Cruz

South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan endorsed Ted Cruz for president one day after the Texas senator locked up first place among Republicans in the Iowa caucuses.

In a video released Cruz’s campaign, Duncan said he is endorsing Cruz because he “isn’t a campaign conservative. He is a proven conservative, who has led so many critical fights, ranging from defense of our traditional values and for our religious liberties, to fighting runaway government spending, to battling against Obamacare.”

“It is critical that we as conservatives get behind someone like Ted, who shares out values,” Duncan continues. “He is a conservative who can beat Hillary Clinton this fall. You see, if we don’t nominate a conservative who can contrast with Hillary on issues like amnesty, marriage or healthcare, we’re likely to lose the White House — again.”

Duncan initially announced his support for Cruz on Fox News on Tuesday, saying Cruz is a Constitutionalist and someone who shares his vision for America.

Duncan, a three-term congressman from the 3rd District of South Carolina, urged voters from his home state to back Cruz in the Feb. 20 primary.

He added that South Carolina will give the Republican nominee “the juice” going into Super Tuesday, which takes place on March 1 when several states hold their primaries.

Cruz later tweeted on his official Twitter account, “I’m honored to earn the support of @duncan4congress!”
