D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans took the stage with Chubby Checker at the Hamilton on Tuesday for an impromptu dance session. Evans’ performance of the “Twist,” which the Ward 2 representative deemed “good,” was hardly his first foray into public performance.
Though he can’t recall the last time, Evans says he “absolutely” has danced onstage before and enjoys dancing when he gets the chance. His performing abilities extend to song. “I used to sing ‘Mack the Knife’ at the Bottle and Cork at Dewey Beach,” says Evans. We’re keeping watch at Chief Ike’s Mambo Room to see if the councilmember shows up to bust a move.
