After this weekend, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has at least two things to be happy about. The first is obviously his big win in South Carolina on Saturday. But Gingrich also scored a key endorsement on Friday leading up to the South Carolina primary — that of actor and martial artist Chuck Norris. Norris penned a column for World Net Daily, which Gingrich’s campaign posted to Newt.org. “He will make a nice Secretary of Attack,” Gingrich tweeted, along with a link to the endorsement.
The endorsement was a hit, so much in fact that Newt.org was down for several minutes after Gingrich tweeted about it. While the campaign couldn’t confirm this was the reason for the site crash, the error message Yeas & Nays received is generally reserved for a website experiencing heavy web traffic.
Gingrich isn’t the only candidate to get love from the “Walker, Texas Ranger” star. Norris endorsed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in 2008 and filmed a campaign video with him entitled “Huck Chuck Facts,” based on the popular web meme.
