Jeb Bush plummets in new national poll

Donald Trump and Ben Carson are tied in a new national poll, and Jeb Bush isn’t anywhere close.

Trump has 24 percent of the support fro Republican and independent Republican-leaning voters, compared to Carson’s 23 percent, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio jumped five points to third place with 14 percent, followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz with 13 percent (he had 6 percent in the last poll).

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush registered just 4 percent, making this another poll conducted after last week’s third Republican debate showing that Bush is struggling to keep up. In September, he had 10 percent in the same poll.

Other candidates registered 3 percent or less support, while nine percent said they were undecided.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton continues to dominate, as 53 percent back her compared to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 35 percent.

But when matched up with Carson in a hypothetical general election, she trails 50 percent to 40 percent.

“Is there a doctor in the house? There certainly is and at the moment Dr. Ben Carson is delivering a troubling diagnosis to Secretary Hillary Clinton,” Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said in a press release accompanying the poll. “With the election one year away, Ben Carson has surgically cut away all but one GOP opponent and taken a scalpel to Hillary Clinton’s lead.”

Other match-ups are much closer. Rubio beats Clinton 46 percent-41 percent, who also loses to Cruz, 46 percent-43 percent. Clinton does however top, Trump 46 percent-43 percent. Sanders fares about the same as Clinton in those same match-ups.

When it comes to negative favorability ratings, three candidates struggle. Just 1-in-4 of those surveyed saying they have a positive view of Bush, while 58 percent hold a negative view.

Trump is viewed favorably by just 47 percent and unfavorably by 56 percent, while Clinton’s ratings of 42 percent favorable and 52 percent unfavorable are also net negative.

The best margin goes to Carson (49 percent favorable to 25 percent unfavorable), followed by Rubio (39-25) and Cruz (35-32). Sanders’ favorability rating is 39 percent, and his unfavorable rating is 36 percent.

The telephone-based poll was conducted Oct. 29-Nov. 2, surveying 1,144 registered voters nationwide, with an overall margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points. The overall sample included 502 Republicans, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points, and 480 Democrats, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
