Warwick gets psychic: Obama will succeed!

Dionne Warwick would like to remind you that, despite her days as spokeswoman for the Psychic Friends Network during the 1990s, she’s not actually a psychic.

“If I was a psychic, I wouldn’t be talking to you right now,” Warwick told Yeas & Nays on Thursday. “That’s not my thing. I’m a singer and an entertainer.”

But Warwick seems to have some insight into the future on one thing: Barack Obama’s presidency. Warwick was at Teatro Goldini on Thursday to announce and promote The American Music Inaugural Balls’ “Rock With Barack,” and we had to ask: Will Barack Obama be a good president?

“Oh, is there any doubt?” she asked us. “You can feel it already when you see people walking down the street and you see people smiling for a change.”

She’s so convinced of Obama’s promise that she’d be happy to join the administration. “I’d like to be involved in some way, to be a part of anything that he might think I’d be able to do.” Warwick was appointed U.S. ambassador of health in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan, and says, “that might be something I could talk to Obama about. … And he might see a need for it.” And, as for singing a song with Obama, she said she’d jump at the opportunity. “I think we could do a good duet on ‘Walk on By.’ ”

While in town for the inauguration, Warwick may find another person to swoon over besides Obama: Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor.

“I’m really anxious to meet him,” Warwick told us. “Oh my goodness, he is so divine. … I was so taken by him on the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ show.” (Taylor competed in the sixth season of ABC’s reality competition show.) “He seems like a really nice person.”
