A potential mass shooting at the U.S. Capitol has been foiled.
A Cheverly, Md., man was arrested this week after allegedly texting his wife that he was coming to the Capitol — where she works — to shoot her and others, according to ABC7 News in Washington, D.C.
Under Maryland’s new mass threat law, a warrant was issued for the man’s arrest Monday. When he was taken into custody, he did not have any weapons on him, but authorities indicated he is known to own an assault rifle, handgun and shotgun.
Though the seriousness of the threat was unknown, the language of it forced authorities to take action, sources said.
His identity has not been released and is now in federal custody on a charge of making a threat.
