Jose Andres graces the pages of Bon Appetit

Forget going out to eat at Jaleo, Cafe Atlantico or Oyamel — hanging out with Chef Jose Andres at his house seems like a lot more fun.

The local chef and restaurateur was featured in the September issue of Bon Appetit magazine cooking for friends at his Bethesda home.

For the article, titled “Where there’s smoke, there’s paella,” Andres made a chicken, mushroom and shrimp paella in his backyard, cooking it over a fire in a three-foot-wide pan. (The dish was so big, two people had to cart it upstairs when it was done.)

Bon Appetit included recipes for the dinner (which served eight). The menu included Cava sangria, made with the Spanish sparking wine; cantaloupe with jamon, which was served as an appetizer; tomato and pepper gazpacho with sherry; Andalusian salad, a salad from Spain’s southern region; flan for dessert; and, of course, paella.

And for those without a giant pan and an outdoor cooking spot, the magazine included a recipe for stove-top paella, too.
