Liberal columnist: Bill Clinton in the White House an ‘uncomfortable situation’

Ruth Marcus, liberal columnist and an editor for the Washington Post, admitted Friday it will be awkward if former president Bill Clinton moves back into the White House, given that he “encompasses the twin minefields of sex and money.”

In a column published Friday, Marcus said a potential “first gentleman” Clinton would need to stay as hidden as possible.

“Having him back in the White House if his wife is elected president creates an uncomfortable situation,” wrote Marcus. “It shouldn’t stop her from getting the job, but it can fairly shape what we want and expect of him as First Spouse.

“It is intellectually dishonest to be appalled by [Republican Donald] Trump’s behavior toward women and to airbrush Bill Clinton’s. To put it bluntly, anyone else with Bill Clinton’s background wouldn’t be hired to work in Hillary Clinton’s White House.”

Marcus also said the WikiLeaks hacked emails of Hillary Clinton’s campaign chair John Podesta have showed that she and her husband “cannot be trusted to appropriately navigate ethical boundaries between their private interests and public responsibilities.”

Instead of finding causes and apolitical projects for Bill Clinton’s potential re-entering at the White House, Marcus said he should “enjoy the grandkids” and “play some golf.”
