Nearly 1 million Americans have voted early

Nearly one million Americans have already cast their ballots for the midterm elections, with less than three weeks remaining until Nov. 4.

Approximately 904,000 voters have already sent in their votes — with almost 60 percent of those early votes in Florida — according to election official data compiled by the Associated Press.

The number will only get higher as more states begin their early voting periods ahead of Nov. 4. The data analyzed is for only 11 of the 33 states and the District of Columbia that allow some form of advance voting other than traditional absentee voting.

Democrats are heavily interested in early voting for members of the party who don’t usually participate in midterms, Justin Barasky, a spokesman for national Democrats, told the AP.

Less engaged voters who support Democrats in presidential elections, he said, are more likely to stay home than typical GOP voters.

Control of the Senate for the final two years of the Obama administration is up for grabs in the midterm elections. Republicans are expected to keep and add to their House majority. There are also 36 governor’s races.
