Report: Bill Clinton campaigned for Hillary inside Mass. polling center

Bill Clinton put his wife Hillary’s campaign in a tight spot late Tuesday when the former president was caught speaking with voters inside a Boston, Mass., polling center, according to a source.

The Clinton campaign “has been reminded” by state officials of the law, which states that “within 150 feet of a polling place as defined in 950 CMR 53.03(18)(c), no person shall solicit votes for or against, or otherwise promote or oppose, any person or political party or position on a ballot question, to be voted on at the current election.”

A spokesman for the Massachussetts secretary of state’s office, Brian McNiff, said he did not know if Clinton mingled with voters inside or outside of the Holy Name Parish School in West Roxbury, but then argued Clinton “was just in there shaking hands and there’s no law against that.”

Clinton had been at the polling place with Democratic Boston Mayor Marty Walsh to thank poll workers, Walsh’s spokeswoman Bonnie McGilpin said. But McGilpin clarified that the two had not entered the polling location.

The pit stop was one of four the former president was scheduled to make Tuesday in a run-up to the Super Tuesday primary.

Clinton’s campaign has not issued a statement about the incident.
