Washington has cranked out another “Top Chef” contestant: pastry chef Matthew Petersen, 32, of CityZen and Sou’Wester (both located in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel) will compete on Bravo’s second season of “Top Chef: Just Desserts.” Peterson is no stranger to the restaurant circuit. He’s worked at New York City’s db Bistro Moderne and Restaurant Daniel, Palm Beach’s Cafe Boulud, and at Philly’s LaCroix and Morimoto, where he’s built on his reputation for elegant and delicious pastries.
“His talents lie in his ability to create desserts and pastries that are uncomplicated, yet exceptional and serve as the best complement to the preceding courses,” said Sou’Wester executive chef Eric Ziebold. “I am sure that he will be a formidable competitor, and do us all very proud.”
For the show, which debuts Aug. 24, Peterson will go up against 14 chefs for a chance to win $100,000.
