Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont says the idea that the GOP and Democrats hate each other is a mythology created by the media.
“It’s not that Republicans and Democrats hate each other,” said Sanders, answering questions about bridging the partisan divide during Sunday night’s debate. “That is a mythology from the media.”
The real issue, he said, “is that Congress is owned by big money and refuses to do what the American people want them to do.”
“In area after area, raising the minimum wage to 15 bucks an hour, the American people want it, rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure … pay equity for women, the American people want it,” he said.
“The point is we’ve got to make Congress respond to the needs of the people,” Sanders said.
