Trump: Christie called me for ‘a long talk’

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says fellow candidate Chris Christie called him after Tuesday night’s New Hampshire primary for a “long talk.”

But when asked if he would see Christie’s endorsement if the New Jersey governor decides to drop out of the 2016 fray, Trump avoided the question, and instead praised Christie for his performance in last weekend’s GOP debate.

“I think that Chris did an amazing job in terms of the debate, as a prosecutor, and he’s a friend of mine,” Trump said Wednesday morning on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“And he actually called me last night, and we had a long talk, and he’s a little disappointed because he really did do a great job, he did an amazing job during that debate,” he added.

Christie finished in sixth place in the Granite State after he appeared to have momentum building in part thanks to successful attacks on rival Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. The governor said Tuesday night he would return home to rethink his campaign.

After Rubio’s fifth place finish in the New Hampshire primary, Trump added he hopes he can turn his campaign around.

“I was witness to it, because I was standing next to Marco, who I like very much, and, you know, it was a strange kind of situation going on there,” he said. “It was a little bit strange. And Marco understands that, and he’ll be able to fix it I hope.”

With 35.1 percent of the vote, Trump won 10 delegates and the primary in New Hampshire.
