Why ScarJo really liked the Correspondents Dinner

Actress Scarlett Johansson absolutely raved about Washington’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in the December issue of Interview magazine, calling the annual black-tie affair “the best party in town” and saying she preferred it over any of the awards shows.

“I’m already planning what I’m going to wear to the next White House Correspondents’ dinner,” Johansson gushed to Arianna Huffington , who conducted the interview and also was the one who invited her to last spring’s affair.

“Next time I go I’m going to find Anderson Cooper‘s table and camp out there,” she said, adding that her brother, Hunter was “totally geeked-out” by Katie Couric. “I think he followed her around the entire night,” she said. “I was chasing after him, and I turned around, and I had a bunch of Republican senators chasing after me,” she laughed.

That may well be the case, but we know another reason why the actress had such a good time at the dinner. Yeas & Nays was seated several tables away when we caught the “Lost in Translation” star perched on the lap of another Hollywood A-lister, actor Sean Penn. Johansson and Penn had a brief tryst after Johansson divorced actor Ryan Reynolds and the two made their debut as a couple publicly at last spring’s dinner. Penn, who often comes to Washington, D.C., to discuss his work in Haiti, was a guest of Mother Jones magazine and was seated near Washington editor David Corn when Johansson came over and crashed the table to cuddle.

Later that evening, Penn and Johansson were spotted getting cozy at the Vanity Fair/Bloomberg after-party at the French ambassador’s residence. They broke up shortly thereafter.
