The Republican National Committee announced Saturday they raised $10.1 million in August, beating their Democratic counterparts by nearly $3 million with just two months left until the midterm elections.
Republicans said they have raised a record total of $150.4 million in the 2014 election cycle. They’ve beaten Democratic fundraising nearly every month in the past year and are ahead overall.
The Democratic National Committee said Friday they raised $7.4 million in August for a fundraising total of $133 million.
The chairman of the RNC, Reince Priebus, said that as of the most recent fundraising report, the RNC is ahead of the Democratic National Committee by about $15 million.
The RNC has about $14.5 million in cash on hand and has spend much of its money on mailings and telemarketing, according to the fundraising data.
Priebus said the average donation in August was $62, and 98 percent of all donations were less than $200 apiece.
“By making early investments, we’ve been able to supply our candidates with superior data and new voter contact apps and tools, and we’ve been able to expand the map so that we have multiple paths to taking back the Senate,” Priebus said in a statement.
Both parties have been pushing hard for small donors.
This week, the House Democratic fundraising arm sent out emails that seemed to be fundraising off comments conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh made about rape. Limbaugh said the remarks were taken out of context.
House Republicans, meanwhile, have been criticized for sending fundraising emails showcasing the GOP’s decision to investigate the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
