President Obama’s Gator connection

President Obama welcomed the University of Florida football team to the White House on Thursday for the usual champions’ meet and greet. But for this go-round, there was one player that the president had a soft spot for: offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert.

As Obama explained to the crowd, Gilbert’s father, Jeff, “was the first Secret Service agent on my detail, almost two years ago. He was with me for most of the campaign; he is a great friend of mine. … We always tried to figure out how Marcus got so big because Jeff is not that big and his wife is even smaller.”

(Marcus goes six-foot-six, 300 pounds.)
