Benjamin Netanyahu: No Palestinian state as long as I am prime minister

As long as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leads Israel, no Palestinian state will exist.

The day before Israeli elections, as support for the three-term leader falters, Netanyahu took back his support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Whoever moves to establish a Palestinian state or intends to withdraw from territory is simply yielding territory for radical Islamic terrorist attacks against Israel,” he told NRG, an Israeli news site. “Anyone who ignores this is sticking his head in the sand. The Left does this time and time again. We are realistic and understand.”

When asked if he were to continue as Israeli’s prime minister if a Palestinian state would not be established, Netanyahu replied: “Correct.”

In 2009, Netanyahu endorsed the idea of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, though with some exceptions.

Netanyahu is currently trailing Isaac Herzog in opinion polls, who is the leader of Israel’s Labor Party.
