Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, currently trailing in the polls and fighting off an email scandal, is making every effort to soften her image. With Donald Trump only 3 points behind her in a new national poll, the former secretary of state released a new ad focusing on her grandchild Charlotte and the generation she will grow up with.
“When I look at my new granddaughter, I think to myself, ‘We are going to do everything we can to make sure she has opportunities in life. But what about all the kids?'” Clinton says in the opening of the ad.
In the ad, titled “Every Child,” Clinton says, “You should not have to be the grandchild of a former president to know that you can make it in America.” It’s a remark she makes often on the campaign trail.
In the spot, Clinton uses another one of her well-worn campaign promises and says her “mission as president” will be “to make sure I do everything I can, every single day, to knock down the barriers, to open up the doors, so that every child has a chance to live up to his or her God-given potential.”
“Instead of entering a private law firm after law school, Clinton started her career knocking doors for the Children’s Defense Fund and has made her entire career about fighting for women and children,” states the release from the Clinton campaign, adding that the spot underscores the central purpose of her campaign, “to restore the basic bargain in America and fight for the rights of every American.”
The ad is available on the internet, and being played in television markets in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Clinton has lost what was once a commanding lead against Republican front-runner Donald Trump, now leading him by only 3 points in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll.
