A social media editor somewhere is having a very bad Monday.
Politico tweeted — and then quickly deleted — a note Monday suggesting the bald eagle is a mammal.
“Move over bald eagles – the North American bison is now the national mammal,” read the now-deleted tweet.
The bald eagle is not a mammal. It is a bird. The feathers and eggs give it away.
The House voted unanimously last month to name the bison the “national mammal of the United States.” The bill, which was sponsored by Rep. Lacy Clay, D-Mo., and Kristi Noem, R-S.D., passed by voice vote.
President Obama signed the National Bison Legacy Act into law Monday.
